Florida Complaint Recognizing the Failure of the 2000 Presidential Election
There was a lot of controversy regarding the 2000 presidential election of George W Bush. One such controversy involved the much bigger matter of racial discrimination. It was alleged by the NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, that many Black voters were not permitted to vote and had their votes disqualified for one reason or another. It is alleged that the recruitment practices of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People were hindered leaving the Blacks at a loss for representation. This allegation was brought as against a law suit against the state of Florida. This Florida complaint caught the attention of the nation immediately after the most controversial election the United States has seen in several generations. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People alleged that the voters were purged from the eligible voters list due to an incomplete list being distributed to the polls. This may have been due to the later nature of the enrollment of many Blacks into the voting parties. It is alleged that the voting committees did not fully investigate the list and did not complete their jobs as according to the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States which ensures everyone the right to vote if registered. This Florida complaint was not taken lightly by the nation and a great deal of media coverage was afforded it. Floridians can file complaints at CCA and get their complaints heard. In the end, there was found to be many discrepancies regarding the voting system in Florida. These indiscretions ranged from not allowing some members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to vote despite their proper and legal right to vote. Each individual named in the class action suit against Florida was found to have completed the proper forms and appear at the proper polling booths at the appropriate times. Other indiscretions included the improper tallying of the Florida ballets. These ballets became a focal point during the election due to the close nature of the voting college scores. This Florida complaint became the symbol of the failure that was the Florida election in 2000. |
